2023 Rochester Flute Association Performance Competition APPLICATION DEADLINE EXTENDED: September 30, 2023
High School Grade 9-12 as of the 2023-2024 academic year. Teacher’s signature required. College/Emerging Artist Flutists of any age currently enrolled in any music degree/certificate program, OR who have completed such a program within the last 5 years of the competition. Adult Anyone over the age of 18 as of November 1, 2023 who does not fall into the other two categories.
Repertoire Requirements High School
1) Poulenc Sonata, mvts. 1 & 2
2) One piece of the applicant’s choosing (must be flute alone or flute & piano repertoire); two contrasting movements, if applicable.
College/Emerging Artist 1) Gade/ChristensenTango Fantasy 2) Onepieceoftheapplicant’s choosing (flute alone or flute & piano repertoire); two contrasting movements, if applicable. Adult

Winners & Awards The RFA will award one cash prize in each category; however, the judges reserve the right to not award a prize in any category. The High School category winner will receive $100, the Adult category winner will receive $150, and the College/Emerging Artist category winner will receive $200.

WINNERS AND AWARDS The RFA will award one high school winner with $150 and one collegiate winner with $150; however, the judges reserve the right to not award a prize. The winners (and accompanists) will be required to perform both pieces at the Winners’ Recital at Flute Fair on October 21, 2023. Application Procedures will be available by June 2023. Masterclass Saturday, October 21, 2023 12:00 - 1:30 PM Martha Brown Middle School 665 Ayrault Rd, Fairport, NY 14450 This masterclass is open to all flutists including 7th - 12th grade students, collegiate, and adult performers. Performers may prepare a standard solo from the flute repertoire, orchestral excerpts from the standard orchestral repertoire, or an etude/study, not to exceed 7 minutes. Accompaniment is not required, but a piano will be available and you may bring an accompanist if you so choose. Three to four performers will be selected based on timing and presented repertoire. Teachers’ recommendations are required for 7th - 12th grade students to confirm the students’ high level of preparation.
