RFA Flute Choir Composition Competition Prize: $500.00, performance, and recording Entry fee: $15 USD Deadline: June 15, 2023
OVERVIEW: The Rochester Flute Association announces a composition competition as part of its 2023 Annual Flute Fair, which will be held in the fall of 2023 in Rochester, New York. The RFA was chartered in 1995 and received non-profit status is 1998. We currently have an active membership base of approximately 200 students, performers, private teachers, music educators, and adult amateurs in the Rochester, New York area. We promote musical excellence, the enjoyment and appreciation of the flute, and the exchange of ideas among flutists and flute enthusiasts.
GENERAL GUIDELINES: Original compositions (no arrangements) for Flute Choir, approximately 5 to 7 minutes in duration, scored for: Piccolo, Flute 1, Flute 2, Flute 3, Flute 4, Alto Flute, & Bass Flute; subsets of this instrumentation will also be considered. There are no age or nationality restrictions. Submitted works can have been previously performed, but not published by a third party (self-published works are acceptable). Multiple submissions are permissible, with a separate entry fee for each one. The winner will be announced by September 15, 2023. The prize will be adjudicated by a panel of judges selected by the Rochester Flute Association Board. The prize will not be awarded if no composition is deemed worthy. The winning composer must provide performance-ready score and parts to RFA, at no extra cost, no later than June 15, 2023. Letter-size PDF score and parts are acceptable. All subsequent copies of the winning score must include “First Prize in the 2023 Rochester Flute Association Composition Competition” on the cover or first page of the score.
PRIZE: $500.00, performance, and recording The winner will receive a $500 cash price, and the winning composition will be performed at a Rochester Flute Association-sponsored concert during calendar year 2024. A good quality recording will be made by the Rochester Flute Association Flute Choir during calendar year 2024. Both the composer and the RFA will be free to use this recording at no cost for archival and promotional purposes, but not for commercial purposes.
The composer will retain all rights to the composition.

The $15 entry fee may be paid using Venmo, @RochesterFluteAssociation (find link at bottom of this page). Please write your name and “Composition Competition” in the “What’s it for?” section.
