Fraser Lesson Scholarship
The Fraser Lesson Scholarship was made possible by Alleen and Jefferson Fraser, beloved music teachers who influenced the lives of numerous students during their careers in the Rochester City School District. This scholarship continues their desire for an excellent arts education that is accessible to all.
The Rochester Flute Association’s Fraser Lesson Scholarship was established by the RFA to provide financial support for a student to take individual flute lessons with a teacher who is a member of the Rochester Flute Association.
Deadline: January 31, 2026
Eligibility: students in grades 3-12, in the following 10-county area: Erie, Genesee, Livingston, Monroe, Onondaga, Ontario, Orleans, Seneca, Wayne, Wyoming
Criteria: The award is based on merit, aptitude, enthusiasm, and need.
Award: This year’s scholarship is available from January through August 2026. The student may reapply for the scholarship for the following school year. The awardee will receive an award of up to $1,000 to be applied toward their flute lesson tuition, to be paid in quarterly installments to the teacher or institution where the teacher is employed. In addition, the awardee will receive a one-year membership with the RFA to take advantage of the organization's educational programs.
Requirements: Upon accepting the scholarship, the student will agree to attend lessons regularly, practice assigned materials, and participate fully in the lessons. A mentor/teacher will be assigned to the student to assist in finding a teacher, if needed, and to be an additional resource to help provide a successful experience.
